"Called for duty" - aviation art by Simon Cattlin
During the 1982 Falklands War the Sea Harriers of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm built a legend around this small, subsonic fleet defence fighter. Tactics, skill and strategy combined to produce a world class air warfare performance as it took on the Mirage and A4 equipped Argentinian airforce, attacked their ground troops as well as defending the fleet and the landing Britsh forces.
"Called for duty" depicts a pair of 801 NAS Sea Harrier FRS1’s on a combat air patrol forward of the fleet climbing to mid-level altitude in a cold, grey southern ocean skyscape.
"Called for duty" was completed and sold in 1986, it was my first published work with 2000 lithographic prints being produced by the Circuit Gallery at Biggin Hill.
