“Dragonfly and Wasp” is the first of a set of paintings that I’m producing in collaboration with Simon Brading who created and authored the Misfit Squadron books which are set in a slightly parallel reality during the 1940’s. In this steampunk world much of the technology is familiar other than the energy sources which are not based on fossil fuel based combustion engines.

Dragonfly and Wasp are both custom designed spring powered “turn” fighters flown by the two principal characters in the books. In this painting, which is set a little before the Battle of Britain, a newly recruited Gwen Stone flying Wasp is being tested by Abby Lennox in Dragonfly.
