"Icon" is one of two paintings specifically produced in November 2017 for the British Aerobatic Association ( BAeA ) to help drive international team training funds. 100% of proceeds go to the BAeA.

The original Pitts Special, designed by Curtis Pitts, first flew in 1944 and the succesive models have dominated the world of aerobatics for over 70 years. The Pitts S1 and S2 designs have probably accumulated more training, practice, competition and display hours than any other aerobatic aircraft in aviation history.

The Pitts S1 was the primary advanced and unlimited competition "weapon of choice" throughout the 1960's and 1970's and is still a potent performer today. Its a wonderful aircraft to fly and is a very capable, strong and predictable training platform. In addition to its pitch, roll, yaw, flick and spin behaviour its a challenging aircraft to land and many hundreds of us have learned the "Afton two step" as we honed our operating skills on type. I've flown numerous Pitts S1 and S2 aircraft and learned a lot both under instruction and flying solo.

"Icon" is a painting of a fast moving Pitts S1 pulling out of a loop, with smoke on, clear of cloud on a warm sunny day.
